PDF tools for organizing, converting and protecting documents

Start with what the recipient needs: a different page sequence, a smaller document, an image or editable text. PDF operations are not interchangeable, and a conversion can discard capabilities that a simple page edit would keep.

Choose by the task

  • Keep the PDF: merge, rotate, extract, delete or reorder pages.
  • Create page images: choose JPG for a photographic output or PNG for sharp rendered edges.
  • Recover editable text: PDF to Word uses available text, not OCR.

Size and opening protection

Build a readable packet before converting

Merge complete documents in file order, then review boundaries between them. Rotate sideways pages, delete unnecessary pages or reorder the complete sequence. If you only need a subset, Extract produces one selected-page PDF per run, not a separate file for every page.

Keep the original until the output has been checked. Interactive forms and signed documents need special care because structural rewriting can reject forms or invalidate signatures.

Choose pixels, text or a PDF wrapper

PDF to JPG and PNG render page images; PDF to Word attempts to recover editable text and basic structure without OCR. JPG and PNG to PDF package images as pages. Word to PDF accepts supported DOCX, with approximate layout rather than exact Microsoft Word rendering.

Lossless PDF compression tackles object and stream storage, not scan resolution. Protect and Unlock address password encryption; unlocking requires a known password. Those differences matter more than choosing whichever tool name sounds closest.

Questions about this topic

Will editing a PDF keep its digital signature valid?

Rewriting a signed document changes the file. Keep the original when signature validation matters; do not assume an edited or converted copy carries the original signature’s validity.
