How it works
How to use
Enter a mass and select two metric or everyday avoirdupois units.
Method
Values are converted through kilograms. One avoirdupois pound is exactly 0.45359237 kilograms.
Example
16 ounces equals 1 pound.
Kilograms to pounds: the everyday reference
The international avoirdupois pound is exactly 0.45359237 kilograms, so 1 kg is approximately 2.20462262185 lb. Multiply kilograms by that reciprocal factor for pounds; multiply pounds by 0.45359237 for kilograms.
- Input
- 150 lb → kg
- Method
- 150 × 0.45359237
- Result
- 68.0388555 kg
| Kilograms | Pounds | Kilograms | Pounds |
|---|---|---|---|
| 40 kg | ≈ 88.18 lb | 75 kg | ≈ 165.35 lb |
| 50 kg | ≈ 110.23 lb | 80 kg | ≈ 176.37 lb |
| 60 kg | ≈ 132.28 lb | 90 kg | ≈ 198.42 lb |
| 70 kg | ≈ 154.32 lb | 100 kg | ≈ 220.46 lb |
Stone and pounds are often written as a mixed weight
A stone is exactly 14 lb. In everyday UK notation, 11 st 7 lb means eleven stone plus seven pounds: 11 × 14 + 7 = 161 lb, which is 11.5 stone.
SnakTool's stone field is numeric rather than mixed-unit notation. Enter 11.5 st or 161 lb for that example; do not type the words and two units into one value.
The seven units behind the converter
Metric units scale cleanly from milligrams to tonnes. The pound family is anchored to the exact international pound; the ordinary ounce is one sixteenth of that pound and stone is fourteen pounds.
| Unit | Equivalent used by SnakTool | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Milligram (mg) | 0.000001 kg | 1,000 mg = 1 g |
| Gram (g) | 0.001 kg | 1,000 g = 1 kg |
| Kilogram (kg) | 1 kg | Common metric reference |
| Metric tonne (t) | 1,000 kg | Not a US short ton or UK long ton |
| Ounce (oz) | 28.349523125 g | Avoirdupois, not troy or fluid ounce |
| Pound (lb) | 0.45359237 kg | International avoirdupois pound |
| Stone (st) | 6.35029318 kg | 14 lb exactly |
Three similar names that are not interchangeable
The ounce on this page is an avoirdupois mass unit. A troy ounce, used for precious metals, has a different mass; a fluid ounce measures volume. Likewise, the supported tonne is the 1,000 kg metric tonne rather than either of the units commonly called a ton in US or UK contexts.
Kilograms, grams, pounds, ounces, stone, and tonnes are mass units. Weight in the physics sense is a force that depends on gravity and is measured in newtons, which this converter does not calculate.
Frequently asked questions about Weight Converter
What does 11 stone 7 pounds equal in decimal stone?
Seven pounds is half a stone, so 11 st 7 lb equals 11.5 st, or 161 lb.
Is the ounce here suitable for gold or silver?
No. SnakTool uses the avoirdupois ounce. Precious metals are commonly quoted in troy ounces, which are different and are not supported here.

Is a metric tonne the same as a US ton?
No. The tonne supported here is exactly 1,000 kilograms; a US short ton is a different unit.
Is the ounce here a fluid ounce?
No. The ounce in this converter is a unit of mass. A fluid ounce is a volume unit.
Can kilograms be converted directly to liters?
Not without density. Kilograms measure mass and liters measure volume, so the relationship depends on the material.
